I don’t photograph kids often but when I do they are this stinking cute!
A Sweet Cake Smash
Ledger was such a sweet little fellow. He was curious and loved being in nature. I did learn that the best way to smash a cake is actually with your feet at this shoot. When ledger was ready to take the cake out, he took it out!
As a photographer who shoots mainly adults, I had to remind and prepare myself going into the session… let the kids be kids. Not all kids (or even most for that matter) can take direction like an adult can. You have to get creative and be patient. I will say that this one year was a pretty easy fellow to photograph.
Prepping for sessions with kids
There is a difference in photographing children versus photographing adults. This would be a great chance to add in some helpful content for the moms trying to prepare their little ones for a photo session. See some tips from a charlotte photographer below.
- Let the kids be kids. Let them play and have breaks. You will love images of your little one being themself.
- Prepare them before the session. Even with younger children, talk to them about what to expect and gently let them know what you expect.
- Make sure those tummies are satisfied before the session. Hungry children make for fussy children.
- It is very important that the parents not stress over how the session will go. Kids can sense our stress and it can effect the outcome.
- Bring a change of clothes! Because… moms you already know.
- Do NOT bribe. Children may be focused on the prize so much that they become irritated waiting for it. The little ones don’t have our ability to be patient just yet.
- Play with your little ones during the session. It makes for laughter and lovely images.
