How to Elope in Colorado

1. What you need to bring with you

    • Bouquet
      1. Fake Floral – Make it and bring it.
      2. Real Floral – Find a local florist and pick it up when you arrive.
    • Boots – Because you may have to hike. And it gets cold in Colorado.
    • Suit
    • Wedding Dress (see the traveling with your dress tips below.)
    • Rings
    • Vows
    • Your furbaby?! (Keep reading.)

2. Traveling with the dress

    • Pick a dress that doesn’t wrinkle easily or plan to arrive in Colorado for your elopement with time to have your dress steamed.
    • When packing your wedding dress be sure to use a rolling technique. Do not fold it! Do a search on youtube to find some of the best ways to roll your dress for travel.
    • Bring a tide pen in case of emergencies.

3. Traveling with the suit

    • The good news is that most resorts and hotels have irons in the suites, so call ahead to check that they have one and you are all set for your trip to Colorado.

4. The Officiant/Witnesses/Paperwork

    • You don’t need them! Something that many people love about eloping in Colorado is that you do not need an officiant or witnesses.
    • Your furbaby can witness for you on the marriage license!
    • Go to your dream spot and read your vows to each other, sign the papers, then send them back in to the courthouse, and you are done.
    • YOU WILL NEED TO PICK UP A MARRIAGE LICENSE FROM THE COURTHOUSE. Please check the county you will be in before arriving to make sure you do not need an appointment!

5. The Elopement Location

    • Be sure to research the location beforehand. Some locations are off limits and some have a charge to elope.
    • Have a backup plan. As you can see below, Lynn and Russell had a unique elopement experience in the snow. It was gorgeous! But it also made it unsafe to get to their original location.

6. Where to get ready?

    • You have the freedom to choose exactly how you wish to do this thing when you elope in Colorado.
      1. Get ready and do a first look at the resort like Lynn and Russell did.
      2. Drive to the location and get ready there, so you can do your first look and ceremony at the same time.
